is a Domain Name?
A
Domain Name is an alias name that points to an IP Address. For example,
when someone wants to find your web site on the Internet, they can enter
www.yourname.com instead of 208.165.64.100.
How
do I register a Domain Name?
Here
you have two options. You can either have us fill in the necessary paperwork
and bill you directly, or you can follow the directions below.
First go to http://www.networksolutions.com and check for your desired
domain name. If it is not available, try several variations or alternatives.
Once have are satisfied, either email us with your desired name or proceed:
Proceed at http://www.networksolutions.com and fill out the online form.
1) Select "New Registration"
2) Follow the instructions and use the following:
A) Use the NIC Handle "PH4730" for the Administrative Contact
B) Use the NIC Handle "HO4485-ORG" for the Technical Contact
3. Use the following nameservers:
a. NS.DOMAINNAMESERVERS.NET 208.165.79.2
b.
NS2.DOMAINNAMESERVERS.NET 208.165.69.1
How long does it take for my Domain Name to be visible
on the Internet?
It
usually takes about 3 to 4 business days before your domain name is
visible to the Internet at-large. This time may vary depending upon
the amount of domains that the InterNIC must process during that time.
The Internic controls all domain name. Once the Internic shows that
your domain name has been transfered to point to us, it can take an
additional 1 to 2 days for the domain name to be recognized by the Internet
at-large because the domain name may be cached with an old IP Address
at the ISP level.
We
will immediately provide you with your sites IP address which will allow
you view your site on our servers.
How
much does a Domain Name Cost?
The
InterNIC (Network Solutions) will send you an invoice for $70 for the
first two years of registration. You are required to pay this bill to
guarantee that your Domain Name is operational. You will be charged
$35 for every year thereafter.
What
is a NIC Handle?
A
NIC Handle is a code that InterNIC uses to uniquely identify people
with Domain Names.
What
extension can I have on the end of my Domain Name?
The
most common domain name extensions are com, net, and org. The most common
extension is the .com. If that domain is not available, you can use
net or org.
InterNIC
requires you to have an existing email account through a local Internet
Service Provider. Also, you need to have a server in which to put your
domain name.
Always
make sure that your domain name is available before trying to register
that name.
Will
InterNIC bill me directly?
Yes,
the InterNIC will bill you at the address or e-mail address you specify
on the registration form as the billing contact.
